Creating a Positive Workplace Environment
At Commerce, we recognize that the people who present our products and services to customers are what set us apart from our competitors. That is one reason why we regularly conduct employee surveys to measure "employee engagement." In 2014, our employee engagement score of 90% exceeded the "high performance companies" norm. Since 2004, our engagement scores have consistently exceeded the banking industry norm of 83%. Why is that important? Employee engagement measures the extent to which all Commerce employees are united in the focus on our customers, our company and our shareholders.
Another regular communication to all Commerce employees comes from David Kemper, our chairman and CEO who sends a quarterly email that discusses our corporate performance, the challenges we face and the importance that each employee plays in our success. Each year, we produce an Employee Annual Report which is distributed via e-mail to all Commerce employees. Through this venue, we are able to share employee success stories across markets and lines of business and underscore that we are "One Commerce" regardless of job or location.
Another regular publication is the annual benefits statement given to all Commerce employees. This provides a summary of the costs and values of current enrollments and projects the value of an employee's 401(k) and other company-sponsored plans at retirement. The benefits statement is mailed to the employee's home address so that employees can discuss those important issues with family members.
