Kansas City, Mo. - February 9, 2004 - Commerce Bank announced today that it awarded
George Weyrauch $25,000 as part of its Visa® Check Card "Skip the PIN, Sign and Win" sweepstakes that awards cash prizes to randomly selected sweepstakes entrants. Yvonne Hall, Branch Manager, gave the check to the winner during a presentation at the Commerce Bank Blue Springs Banking Center.
Weyrauch entered the sweepstakes when he made a $47.13 purchase at the
Overland Park, Kan. HyVee. "At first I did not believe that I had won," said Weyrauch. "I thought my friends were playing a joke on me. Yvonne had to convince me that I had really won." He plans to use the $25,000 to start a college fund for his daughter, pay for a weekend getaway for his upcoming wedding anniversary and pay off some debt.
The 2003 sweepstakes consisted of more than 45 million entries and 57 winners from all over the country. "Now in its fifth year, we extended the cycle of 'Skip the PIN, Sign and Win' for the entire year and added three additional bonus prizes," said Hap Graff, Senior Vice President with Commerce Bank. "The more times a card holder made a signature-based transaction, then the more chances the customer had to win."
Benefits of Signature-Based Debits
Signature-based transactions have a number of measurable benefits check cardholders may not be aware of, some of which are:
- Commerce Bank's Zero Liability Policy eliminates the customers' liability for any unauthorized transactions that might take place. Customers must notify Commerce Bank within 60 days of receiving a statement showing unauthorized account activity.
- Customers can dispute purchases of goods and services that were never delivered or do not meet their expectations.
Every time a Commerce Bank Visa Check Card customer selected "credit" and signed for his or her purchase, he or she was entered in the sweepstakes. There was no waiting period for eligibility after a card was issued.
