Students present $115,000 check to Bishop Hermann
(St. Louis, MO - February 9, 2005) - Commerce Bank partnered with Catholic elementary schools in the region to assist in transportation, money counting and deposit assistance of a fundraising effort to aid the victims of the recent tsunami disasters. Students of Seven Holy Founders representing all of the Catholic Schools who participated presented a check for $115,000, representing the $115,000 in coins collected by the children, to Bishop Robert Hermann, Vicar General for Education in the diocese, last Thursday. The money will be given to Catholic Relief Services for tsunami relief efforts.
"Choosing to participate in this fundraising effort was an easy decision for Commerce Bank," said Jack Schreiber, Commerce Bank President and Chief Operating Officer. "We're proud to support the tsunami relief fund and are greatly impressed by the dedication and generosity of the students in the Catholic Elementary Schools within our region."
Fundraising activities at the elementary schools included out-of-uniform days, mission carnivals, checkers tournaments and simple coin collecting in jars or plastic swimming pools. In addition, student council members coordinated drives and some schools incorporated the fundraising with social studies to teach students more about the countries affected by the tsunamis.
