Leavenworth, KS - May 16, 2005 - Saint Vincent Clinic was awarded a $4,000 grant from the William T. Kemper Foundation, Commerce Bank, Trustee. The grant will support daily operations of the primary care clinic.
"We are grateful to be able to support a health care clinic that provides such a vital service to the Leavenworth County community," said Bill Petrie, president, Commerce Bank. Petrie made the presentation to Saint Vincent Clinic on behalf of the Kemper Foundation.
Saint Vincent Clinic is a primary care clinic that serves the uninsured poor in Leavenworth County. The clinic services county residents with no type of health insurance and earns 50 percent less than the federal poverty line, which is $14,351 for a single person and $29,500 for a family of four. Sister Rosalie Mahoney founded Saint Vincent Clinic in 1986. She recognized the need in Leavenworth County for better access to health care for the poor. Saint Vincent Clinic is an affiliate of Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System (SCLHS).
The William T. Kemper Foundation, Commerce Bank, Trustee, was established in 1989 following Mr. Kemper's death. The foundation is dedicated to continuing Mr. Kemper's lifelong interest in improving the human condition and quality of life. The Foundation supports Midwest communities and concentrates on initiatives in education, health and human services, civic improvement and the arts.
