(St. Louis, MO. - June 6, 2007) – The June launch of Commerce Bank’s latest advertising campaign, titled “Surprising Relationships,” will be a departure from the Missouri-based bank’s previous advertising campaigns. Created by Bernstein Rein of Kansas City, the campaign includes a series of television and radio spots that feature what appears to be one kind of relationship – such as a mother and her teenage son or a young couple who meet online – that actually turns out to be something else.
“That ‘something else’ is what we hope will make people think differently about a relationship with Commerce,” said Mindy Stimson, Consumer Marketing & Retail Strategy Manager of Commerce. “Most important, it demonstrates how our promise, ‘ask listen solve,’ can make an impact on our customers’ financial lives.”
Each of the ads shows how Commerce bankers work hard to understand the needs of each customer – from the young kid who needs cash on the run, to the soccer mom looking for convenience, to the small business team that needs a partner – and provide solutions that fit.
Commerce Bank’s previous campaigns have featured customers talking about their needs. This campaign showcases “the bank” itself – represented by a motherly, fatherly or friendly individual – talking about the nature of the relationship with his/her customer.
“The campaign also highlights the lighter and more human side of relationships with our customers, added Stimson. “Each element of the campaign has a playful, tongue-in-cheek tonality that puts a friendly face on Commerce and should bring a smile to those who see our new spots or read our ads.”
The spots will be broadcast on St. Louis, Kansas City, St. Joseph, Springfield, Columbia, Peoria, Bloomington, Joplin, and Wichita television, and on Cape Girardeau area radio stations starting in June. Companion ads will also appear in newspapers in St. Louis, Hays, Garden City, Hutchinson, Independence, Hannibal, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, and Manhattan in June. Two of the television spots, titled “Dog-sitting” and “Drywall,” are featured on Commerce Bank’s website. Commerce plans to roll out more television spots later this year.
