Columbia, Missouri, August 14, 2007 – Today teachers and staff at Columbia’s Parkade Elementary had the opportunity to earn Columbia Public School’s Staff Development Credit by attending “Communicating For Success: Using the DiSC™ Model” training, which was sponsored and facilitated by Commerce Bank’s Organizational Development Team and local Commerce executive staff.
Through Commerce’s 24 year partnership with Parkade in the Partners In Education program, a Commerce staff member sat on Parkade’s committee as a volunteer to help formulate a Title 1 plan for the school. During a planning meeting the importance of good communication was discussed and Commerce offered the services of their certified Organizational Development staff to provide this communication training to Parkade teachers and staff at no cost to the Columbia School District.
“We are so excited about this training,” stated Betsy Baker, Principal, Parkade Elementary. “We have identified communication (among the staff and with parents) as areas for improvement. This training will move us toward that goal and help us to be ‘on the same page’ as a staff. All of us communicate with parents in one way or another and this training will help us do a more effective, respectful job with that.” Baker said, “We are so fortunate to have a great partner like Commerce that is willing to provide this training for us. They have been a strong supporter of our school for 24 years, and this is just another example of the depth of their support of education.”
Teresa Maledy, President, Commerce Bank, Central Missouri Region commented, “Community service is at the core of what Commerce Bank is all about. We are committed to the communities in which we live and do business and recognize that our success is directly related to the community’s vitality and quality of life. Commerce employees believe in rolling up our sleeves and taking a hands-on role in getting the job done. They use their expertise and creativity to help produce successful results on many initiatives, including our long standing Partners In Education partnership with Parkade.”
DiSC™ training provides a non-judgmental language for exploring behavioral issues. The course’s purpose is to promote open communication and to overcome barriers in order to build effective relationships. The class will be designed to help people explore other’s behavior patterns and to respect and value individual differences. It then guides participants to understand their own work behavioral tendencies and develop a beginning understanding of how these tendencies may affect co-workers, parents, students and volunteers.
