COMMERCE BANK ANNOUNCES OFFICER ELECTIONS AND PROMOTIONS

KANSAS CITY, MO - August 19, 2005 - The Board of Directors of Commerce Bank, Kansas City, announced the following officer promotions and elections.

Michael Brown has been elected first vice president in the capital markets division of the bank, where he serves as a sales representative. He is responsible for assisting corporations, insurance companies, municipalities and non-profit organizations with cash management and investment solutions. Brown has been with Commerce Bank for eight years. He is a member of the Association for Financial Professionals and volunteers his time with Timothy Lutheran Church, Ozanam Boys Home and the Bishop Sullivan Center. Brown has both his Series 7 and Series 63 license. He received a bachelor's of arts degree in communications and a master's of business administration degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City.

Stephen J. Freidell has been elected first vice president in the capital markets division of the bank, where he serves as a sales representative. His responsibilities include advising clients regarding investment opportunities with the U.S. government, municipal, corporate and money market securities. Freidell has been with Commerce Bank for 24 years. He received a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from Emporia State University.

Todd Molz has been elected vice president in the mortgage division of the bank, where he serves as the mortgage origination sales manager. He is responsible for overseeing the origination, sales and marketing efforts of all Commerce mortgage originators in Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. Molz has been in the banking industry for 13 years. He is a member of the Riverview Parent Teacher Association and Friends of Eisenhower Park. Molz received a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from Emporia State University.

Patricia Douglas has been elected assistant vice president in the commercial lending department of the bank, where she serves as a loan review manager. She currently manages the western region for the loan review department. Douglas has 18 years of industry experience. She received a bachelor's of science degree in management/finance and management/marketing from Park University.

Charlie Truitt has been elected assistant vice president in the commercial banking department, where he serves as a relationship manager for the metro lending division. He is responsible for business development and relationship management with an emphasis on transportation and allied industries. Truitt has been with Commerce Bank for four years. He received a bachelor's of arts degree in English from Colorado College and a master's in business administration degree from Colorado State University.

Michelle Hayo has been elected officer in Retail Lending and Payment Systems (RLPS), where she serves as a product specialist. She is responsible for research, recommendation and implementation of pre-paid debit products. This includes managing marketing, training material creation and product enhancements. Hayo has been with Commerce Bank for four years. She received a bachelor's of arts degree in sociology and anthropology from Truman State University and a master's in business administration degree from Baker University.

Sarah Lacy has been elected officer in the treasury services division of the bank, where she serves as a treasury services specialist. She is responsible for servicing commercial customers day-to-day treasury management needs and serves as the technical liaison between Commerce Bank's customers and the operations and information technology departments to ensure smooth implementation of requested services. Lacy has been with Commerce Bank for 12 years.
