COMMERCE BANK ANNOUNCES NEW OFFICERS AND BOARD MEMBER

MANHATTAN, KS - October 6, 2004 - The Board of Directors of Commerce Bank, Manhattan, announced the following officer promotions and elections.

Judy Priestley has recently joined Commerce Bank as Vice President for the Commercial Banking division, where she serves as a Business Relationship Manager. She is responsible for new business development, commercial lending and relationship management. Priestley has been in the banking industry for 31 years. Most recently she was a Vice President with UMB Bank in Manhattan.

Darci Cain, CTFA has recently joined Commerce Bank as Vice President in The Commerce Trust Company, a division of Commerce Bancshares, Inc. As the Trust Administrator, she is responsible for developing new business in the Manhattan and Hays markets and works with high net worth individuals in the areas of estate planning, asset management, investments and trust documentation. Cain has been in the industry for five years and most recently she was a Trust Officer and Investment Broker with Central National Bank of Herington. She earned a bachelor's of business administration degree in management and a bachelor's of arts degree in office administration from Tabor College. Cain also holds a Series 7, Series 66, life, health and accident insurance license.

Paula Walawender has been elected Officer in the Commercial division of the bank, where she serves as a Commercial Banking Relationship Manager. Her responsibilities include providing product information to business banking customers, providing loan support and growth for the commercial department. Walawender has been with Commerce Bank for 11 years within different divisions of the bank. She also holds a Series 7 license. Walawender was a past United Way board member. She attended Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

Richard Jankovich has been elected to the Commerce Bank Advisory Board of Directors. He currently serves as Senior Vice President, Commercial Banking. His responsibilities include coordinating new business development activities, managing commercial client relationships and coordinating product education. Jankovich has more than 18 years of banking experience.

Jankovich is a member of the Risk Management Association and a three-time award winner of the 100% club. "Rich's expertise has been be a great asset to our Bank in Manhattan," said Tom Giller, President, Commerce Bank. "We are very pleased for him to join our Board."

Jankovich is a Manhattan native, a graduate of Manhattan High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University. He also has an M.B.A. from Central Missouri State University.
