Reviewing Your Account
Keeping track is the key to keeping your account in good shape.
Determining Your Balance
You can obtain your current balance by phone, at an ATM or through Online
Banking.
| Your check register is the best tool for keeping track of money
going into and out of your account. If you keep accurate records in
your register, it should always reflect your most accurate balance.
Keep in mind the available balance shown online or at the ATM may not
include outstanding checks or debit card transactions, fees or unposted
deposits.
|

You may need to do some calculations to match the balance shown in your
register with the balance shown by the bank.
First, subtract any pending withdrawals.
- Look in your register for checks you've written or withdrawals or
purchases you've made that aren't shown on your checking account statement
or Online Banking. Subtract those from the balance shown by the bank.
- Then check your account statement or Online Banking for any transactions
(including bank fees) that aren't written in your register. Subtract
those from the balance in your register.
Next, add any pending deposits.
- If your account statement or Online Banking shows a deposit that isn't
shown in your register, add that to the balance in your register
- If your register shows a deposit that isn't shown in your account
statement or Online Banking, confirm that the deposit is included in
your available balance
At this point, the balance on your account statement or Online Banking
should match the balance shown in your register. If they don't match,
look for errors.
- Check your register to make sure your addition and subtraction are
correct
- Compare the amount of each transaction shown in your register with
the amount shown on your account statement or Online Banking to verify
that your register shows the correct amount (for example, if you made
an ATM withdrawal for $40, but wrote it down in your register as $30)

Monthly Account Review
Balancing your account each month will help you make sure you have a
record of all of your transactions, avoid overdrawing your account, and
catch errors or fraud.
Most banks' policies specify an outer timeframe for reporting errors
or unauthorized transactions on your account. At Commerce, you must
review your statement promptly and report any error no later than 30
days after receiving your statement. Errors related to electronic funds
transfers must be reported no later than 60 days after mailing of the
statement on which the error first occurred. A monthly account review
will help make sure any errors are resolved quickly.
Your monthly statement includes a worksheet to help you balance your
account.
- If you receive your statement on paper, the worksheet is printed on
the back.
- If you receive your statement online, the worksheet is the last page.
