How to activate a Visa Gift Card?

Activation of your card depends on the purchase method. Cards purchased through a Corporate Bulk order (the first 8-digits are 4332-9101) must be activated by calling Gift Card Customer Service at 866-271-7780. Cards purchased online via our website (first 8-digits of your card are 4332-3500) will have your name embossed on it. You will activate your card using a combination of your phone number and zip code.

How can I check the balance on my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

To check the balance of your Commerce Visa Gift Card, log on to commercebank.com/checkmygiftcard or call the toll-free number 866-271-7780.

Why should I register a Visa Gift Card?

Registering your card has several benefits: It enables you to make purchases online. Most online retailers do not accept payments without a valid “billing” address. Your registered address will serve as the “billing” address that retailers require. It enables Customer Service Representatives to more quickly assist you when you call. It protects you from fraudulent activity. It protects you if your card is ever lost or stolen, so that you can be reimbursed for lost funds.

What should I do if my Commerce Visa Gift Card is lost or stolen?

Report a lost or stolen card immediately by calling Customer Service at 866-271-7780. You will need to have the card number and other identifying information in order to cancel the card and have a replacement card issued. A card replacement fee will apply if you are replacing a card that is lost/stolen. Refer to the fee section below.

How will I know the original amount of my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

What happens if I spend all the money on my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Once you have used up the funds on your Commerce Visa Gift Card, your card will be closed and you may discard. You may keep it in case you need to return an item you have purchased using the card, which will reopen your card if it has not expired.

Can I make purchases for more than the amount remaining on my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

To make a purchase greater than the balance on your card, you will need to use a second payment method, such as cash, check, or credit/debit card, for the difference. Tell the cashier how much to deduct from the card and how much you will pay with the second payment method.

Where can I use my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Your Commerce Visa Gift Card can be used anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. Your Gift Card can only be used within the Unites States for retail, online and telephone purchases.

Can I use my Visa Gift Card online?

Yes. You can use your Commerce Visa Gift Card to make purchases online. You must register your card before purchasing online. Some retailers will not process your purchase without a valid address registered to the card. You can register your card online at commercebank.com/checkmygiftcard or by calling 866-271-7780.

Can I use my Commerce Visa Gift Card at gas stations?

Yes. If you use your Gift Card for gasoline purchases, you must pay with the card at the cashier station. The card cannot be used for “Pay at the Pump” transactions if a PIN is not created when activating the card.

Can I use my Commerce Visa Gift Card at restaurants and hotels?

Yes. You should be aware that many restaurants, hotels, car rentals and other merchants might factor in an automatic tip or other expenses above the purchase amount when authorizing card purchases. If your bill, plus the estimated tip or other expenses, exceeds the amount on the Gift Card, it may be declined.

Can I add a PIN to my Visa Gift Card?

Yes. You may self-select a 4-digit PIN number online or over the phone. You may use your PIN for Point-of-Sale transactions.

Can I use my Commerce Visa Gift Card at an ATM?

No. Your Commerce Visa Gift Card can only be used for retail, online, and telephone purchases.

Can I use my Commerce Visa Gift Card to get cash or cash back at a bank or checkout lane?

No. Your Commerce Visa Gift Card does not have any “cash back” features.

Can I add more money onto my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

No, the Commerce Visa Gift Card does not have a reloadable feature.

How long can the Commerce Visa Gift Card be used?

Your Commerce Visa Gift Card will expire the last day of the month that is embossed on your card, which shall be no earlier than 5 years from the date of purchase. You may use your card to make purchases until the entire value of your card has been used or you’ve reached a zero balance due to Fee assessment. If you are a recipient of the Card, be sure and check the expiration date because you might have less than 5 years to use depending on when it was given to you.

What do I do if I have moved since I registered my Commerce Visa Gift Card?

You can change your address or telephone number online at www.commercebank.com/checkmygiftcard or by calling a Customer Service Representative at 866-271-7780.

What fees apply to the Commerce Visa Gift card?

In addition to the per card purchase fee, you will be charged the following fees, when applicable. These fees apply to all gift cards purchased in our branches, online, or through our bulk program effective 8/11/2010.

  • Inactivity Fee - $5.00 per month (Assessed each month after 12 consecutive months of inactivity, after the Card Activation Date or anytime thereafter)
  • Lost/Stolen Card Reissue Fee - $10.00 per occurrence
  • Lost/Stolen Card Cash-Out Fee - $15.00
  • Standard Delivery (Online, 5-7 days) - $5.00 per card
  • Standard Delivery (Bulk, 5-7 days) - $35.00 per order (limitations may apply)
  • Express Delivery (Online/Bulk orders)
    • Online - $30.00 per card
    • Bulk Orders - $45.00 per order (limitations may apply)

What is the Inactivity Fee?

Your card will be considered inactive if there is no activity on the Card (purchases or credit returns) for twelve (12) consecutive months after the Card Activation Date or anytime thereafter. An Inactivity Fee will be assessed each month after twelve (12) consecutive months of inactivity. We will continue to charge an Inactivity Fee until you resume use or your Card reaches a zero balance or the funds expire. If you resume use of your Card, we will cease charging the Inactivity Fee the following month.

What is the Commerce Visa® Gift Card?

The Commerce Visa Gift Card is not a credit card. The Card is accepted everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted within the United States. You may not use your Card to obtain cash from an ATM, redeem it for cash or obtain “cash back” from a Merchant purchase or at a Branch, nor may you re-sell the Card.

Where can I purchase a Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Commerce Bank customers may purchase Commerce Visa Gift Cards online at commercebank.com/giftcards. Limitations may apply. Commerce Bank Corporate customers may purchase Bulk orders (25+ cards) by using our Bulk Order Form on our website, commercebank.com/giftcards.

What dollar amounts can I put on a Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Cards may be loaded in whole dollar amount from $25 to $200 (eGift) or $1000 (plastic) per card. Limitations may apply.

Will I be charged a fee for purchasing a Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Yes. The fee is $4.99 per card for a Commerce Visa Gift Card purchased via the online ordering site (shipping fees will apply) and $3.99 per eGift Card. Fees for a card purchased using our bulk order form (reserved for commercial customers) are $4.50 per card (shipping fees will apply) and $3.99 per eGift Card.

I am trying to purchase a Commerce Visa Gift Card online. The system has denied my attempt to purchase. Why?

To purchase a gift card online, we only accept Commerce Bank Visa Debit Cards or Commerce Bank Credit Cards and you must live within our footprint. If you have met these two criteria and you are being denied, please call the number on the back of your Commerce Bank Visa Debit Card or Commerce Bank Credit Card.

How long will it take for me to receive the Commerce Visa Gift Card that I purchase online?

If you choose standard delivery, you should receive your card in 5-7 business days and incur a shipping fee of $5.00 per card. If you choose express delivery, you should receive your card in 2-4 business days with an additional cost of $30.00 per card. Bulk customers or customers ordering more than 25 cards should contact the Commerce Visa Gift Card Team at giftcardorders@commercebank.com+.

When I purchase a Commerce Visa Gift Card online, can I send the card to the recipient?

Yes. You can purchase a card up to $200 and have that card sent to your recipient. We cannot ship to PO boxes, foreign addresses, or addresses outside our footprint. (Any card purchased with a value over $200 must be sent to the purchaser.)

What if my Commerce Visa Gift Card does not arrive?

If the Commerce Visa Gift Card does not arrive, please call 866-271-7780 and report the card lost or stolen.

Questions frequently asked for Bulk Orders:

Is there a special ordering process for Bulk Orders?

Bulk Visa Gift Card orders can be placed using our Bulk Order Form. Customers may purchase a variable number of cards with variable dollar amounts. This process is great for orders of 25 cards or more. Visit our Bulk Gift Card link for more information and to access the order form.

What dollar amounts can I put on a Commerce Visa Gift Card?

Bulk orders may be purchased in any whole dollar amount from $25 to $200 (eGift) or $1,000 (plastic) per card.

Why shouldn’t I just purchase multiple cards from the Commerce Bank Branch down the street?

Branches may have a limited supply of cards and may not be able to fulfill large orders. We recommend using our Bulk Gift Card Order Form. If you require more than 25 cards and have 4-7 days before you need to deliver the cards to your employees, this is the method we prefer you to use. The cards will be delivered to the address you specify within 4-7 days and will arrive deactivated, which secures them from loss or theft.

What payment method can I use to buy Visa Gift Cards in bulk?

You may provide us with your Commerce Bank checking account number, a Commerce Bank Visa / MasterCard Debit Card, a Commerce Bank Visa / MasterCard Credit Card, or a Commerce Bank Corporate Card or Purchasing Card. If you choose to use another bank’s Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card, or another payment method, please call the Gift Card team at 1.866.946.3017. What is the fee per card when ordering Visa Gift Cards in bulk?

The fee per card is $4.50 for plastics cards and $3.99 for eGift Cards.

What can I expect after I place my bulk order using the Bulk Gift Card Order Form?

You will receive an e-mail notice from us to let you know your order has been received. A member of the Commerce Visa Gift Card Team will then send you an e-mail letting you know we have placed your order and it will arrive to you via Federal Express.  In the actual delivery a spreadsheet will be included that will list the card numbers in your order and the value loaded to that particular card. The cards will come attached to the card carrier with a special envelope that will allow you to write the name of the recipient and the value of the card.

Can I order a large quantity of Gift Cards and distribute over a long period of time?

Yes, however you may limit the amount of time your recipient has to use their card before it expires. Commerce Bank recommends that you order the cards as needed. If you choose to hold onto a card, please do not activate the card.

What can I expect after I place my order using the Business order Form?

How are Visa eGift Cards issued to the recipients?

When you purchase an eGift card you will provide an e-mail address and mobile phone number for the recipient. An e-mail from Visa notifies the recipient that they’ve received a Visa eGift Card. The e-mail includes information about how to activate and use their card.

How are Visa eGift Cards used by the recipients?

eGift cards may be printed or loaded into mobile wallets such as Apple Pay® and Google Pay® for in-person spending at retailers and internet purchases. No plastic card is provided to recipients with eGift card purchases.

Can I get a plastic card replacement for my Visa eGift Card?

Yes, you may call 1-866-271-7780 to request a plastic card replacement for your eGift card. A fee may apply.

How do I activate and use my Visa eGift Card?

You will receive an e-mail with complete instructions on how to activate and use your eGift card. Your mobile number is required to complete the set-up process.

Can I order both plastic and eGift gift cards for my Business?

Yes, you can order plastic or eGift cards for delivery by U.S. mail or e-mail. Visit the Business Gift Card web page to download and submit your card order to the Commerce Gift Card team.

How are Visa eGift Cards issued to the recipients?

When you purchase a digital card, you will provide an e-mail address and mobile phone number for the recipient. An e-mail from Visa notifies the recipient that they’ve received a Visa Gift Card. The e-mail includes information about how to activate and use their card.

How are Visa eGift Cards used by the recipients?

eGift cards are loaded into mobile wallets such as Apple Pay® and Google Pay® for inperson spending at retailers and on-line purchases. No plastic card is provided to recipients with eGift card purchases.
