Your Guide to Payments Conferences

Your Guide
to Payments Conferences

By Erica Raterman, Division Relationship Manager

There are hundreds of conferences that all promise to have the best industry secrets. But like most things in life, not all are created equal. Over the years, we’ve gone to a lot of payments conferences around the country, and we’ve found our favorite conferences for payments and technology. We make it a priority to go to these conferences every year because of the helpful information, insights, and top value that it provides to organizations. If you find yourself at one of these conferences, don’t forget to stop by our booth and say hello!

If you’re looking for a mix of financial topics...

What: AFP (Association of Finance Professionals) National Conference

When: Annually every fall

Why we like it: This one covers all your bases – accounts payable, treasury, finance and more. You’ll meet payments and technology vendors of all sizes, have a selection of pre-conference workshops to choose from, and see a high-profile keynote speaker. As one of the largest conferences in the country, there are plenty of leisure activities, after-hours events, and networking opportunities. There are continuous education opportunities too. This is a busy conference, but it’s very affordable based on the amount of options you get.

If you’re looking for certification opportunities...

What: APP2P (Accounts Payable & Procure-to-Pay) Conference & Expo

When: Annually every spring & fall

Why we like it: Calling all AP professionals! This is a great place to go if you’re in AP and looking to add (or keep) some letters behind your name. While it has top notch certification & continuous education opportunities, it has a lot of stuff for the more casual attendee too. Workshops and sessions are largely focused on Accounts Payable, and they have plenty of experts from the Institute of Finance Management (IOFM). You’ll learn best practices for AP, operations & compliance, leadership, and more. It also offers great networking events.

Other favorites for certifications: NAPCP (National Association of Purchasing Card Professionals) Commercial Card and Payment Conference and the GFOA (Government Finance Officers Association) Annual Conference

If you’re in the insurance industry...

What: IASA (Insurance Accounting & Systems Association) Annual Conference

When: Annually every summer

Why we like it: This one is for the insurance people. They have sessions that cover topics like payments, data management, new technology, consulting services, and much more. The most unique event is the “Vendor Connect Tours” where you can get a quick dose of vendors without having to navigate the hall on your own. You’ll also see high-profile keynote speakers, have continuous education opportunities, and get plenty of networking. If you’re in insurance, you don’t want to miss it.

Another insurance-specific favorite: PLRB (Property Loss Research Bureau) Claims Conference & Insurance Services Expo

If you’re in the healthcare industry...

What: HFMA (Healthcare Financial Management Association) Conference

When: Annually every summer

Why we like it: You’ll want to bring your whole team to this one. Healthcare is a big niche market and this conference covers it all. You’ll get to choose from sessions for business intelligence, patient engagement, financial management, leadership capabilities, revenue cycle improvements, payment trends, data management, and more. They also offer continuous education, networking events, and an expert keynote speaker every year. Besides this large national show, HFMA has regional trade shows throughout the year to maximize your learning and networking opportunities.

Another healthcare-specific favorite: Becker’s Hospital Review Conference
