When you check if you qualify for a Commerce credit card, it means Commerce Bank reviews your credit information via a soft credit inquiry to determine if you may qualify for a card—with no impact to your credit.
This allows you to preview key details, such as the APR and maximum credit line for which you may qualify, before deciding whether to apply for the card.

Does checking if I’m qualified for a Commerce credit card affect my credit?
No. When you check to see if you qualify for a Commerce credit card, Commerce uses a soft credit inquiry, which does not affect your credit.
If you choose to continue with the application, a hard credit inquiry will be completed, which may affect your credit.
How does credit card qualification process work?
The process is quick and easy with three steps:

- If you decide to apply, a hard credit inquiry is completed to determine final approval.
Does being qualified for a credit card guarantee I’ll be approved?
No. Checking if you qualify does not guarantee approval. You must accept the terms and submit the application to determine final approval.
What’s the difference between “checking if I qualify” and receiving a preapproved credit card offer?
The difference is how the experience is initiated. You can check if you qualify for a Commerce credit card online at any time, while preapproved credit card offers are sent by Commerce Bank by mail or email. If you have received a preapproved credit card offer, it was initiated by Commerce Bank and should include a redemption code to accept the preapproved credit card offer.
Do I need to be a Commerce Bank customer to check if I qualify?
No. You do not need to be a Commerce Bank customer to check if you qualify.

You can check eligibility for select Commerce Bank credit cards, including:

How quickly will I know if I qualify for a Commerce credit card?
You’ll learn if you qualify immediately after submitting your information. If you do qualify, you will have 30 minutes to apply. If you aren’t able to complete the application within 30 minutes, you’ll be required to start the qualification process again.
Can I check if I qualify for Commerce credit card in a branch or over the phone?
No. This experience is currently only available online at commercebank.com. We can assist with questions while you complete the process online.
What if I don’t qualify for a Commerce credit card?
If you don’t qualify, you’ll see a digital notice explaining the key reasons for this decision. As a reminder, this review does not affect your credit.
Can I still choose to apply if I don’t qualify for a Commerce credit card?
Yes. You can still apply for a Commerce credit card by visiting your nearest branch or calling us at 1-800-725-0512.
If I qualify, how long do I have to decide if I want to move forward and apply?
You will have 30 minutes during the same online session to review the details and decide whether to move forward with the application. If the session ends, you can return later and restart the qualification process.
Can I check if I qualify for more than one credit card at a time?
No. You may only check if you qualify for one Commerce credit card at a time.
Can I add an authorized user during the qualification process?
Yes, you may add up to two authorized users after confirming your information is accurate. The presence of authorized users will not affect your eligibility for a Commerce Bank credit card and Commerce Bank will not use credit information from the Authorized User to determine your eligibility.

Can I complete balance transfers after I decide to move forward with the application?
Balance transfers are not available during the application process. If your application is approved, you can request a balance transfer through Online Banking, by visiting your nearest branch, or by calling 1-800-645-2103.
