I have been a cardholder for years, for decades even. I have what I consider a fairly low credit limit and recently asked to have it raised and was declined. I have a great credit score (in the 800s) and a long standing history of paying every bill in full and on time. No justified reason for being declined. So we will only use this card as needed if at all now and easily got a different visa with similar if not better rewards elsewhere. It really soured us to ever consider getting another card through commerce. Also, I realize this review is about the special connections credit card, but we also decided to get a my spending debit card recently and when we went to activate it, we were charged .50 cents. I called twice - once to show my teenager how to do it since it was her first time; then a second time so she could do it herself. The fact that we were charged for the call is ridiculous and the opposite of customer service. I never even spoke to a live person - I did everything through the automated system when I called. I then called to find out why and was told you get one free then they charge for every next phone call within a certain time frame. Luckily they didn't charge me for that call because I didn't give my card number to ask that question. This debit card is for a teenager learning how to use credit and debit, and calling to check her balance would be the easiest way to go about it but unfortunately, draining her limited income of .50 cents every time she does so is definitely a huge negative we wish we knew before we went with this card.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Your former rewards program was good. Was able to obtain products without too many reward points needed. Now, it's practically impossible to rack up enough points to purchase anything. Unless of course, you spend 5k to 10k a month on your card, which as a retiree, is impossible to do. Hence, I no longer use my Visa credit card unless I have to. My points go on my Discover card.

I think it is just as easy to get cash back rather than worry about gift cards.
